Oregon Manifest Brings in Big Firms

Source: Core77

The Oregon Manifest has a few of it builders entering in collaboration with some of the hottest Industrial Design firms in America: IDEO + Rock Lobster, Fuseproject + Sycip and Ziba + Signal. How will it turn out is anyone’s guess. In the end I think success will be driven by the design firm’s ability to genuinely communicate their design process to the builder and then actively engage the builder in said process.

If you consider the number of bikes Paul Sadoff and Jeremy Sycip have made, or the fine arts focus on aesthetics that Matt and Nate from Signal embody in their bikes, then I imagine the design firms will have to work hard to prove to the builders that wholly new ideas are valid. But like all consultative client interactions, if their is trust and a good process then amazing things can happen.
